At least in this test with these two models, we see no clear discernible improvements for LiDAR 3D scanning purposes. We do always recommend the latest models whenever possible, but also recognize that upgrading every year is not always practical. So, rest assured that at least with these 2 more recent models, we are still seeing great / comparable results for all Dot3D scanning purposes from both devices. Take a look for yourself:
