Loop Closure in Dot3D

Close the loop (overlap) to automatically improve the accuracy of your scans.

Loop closure is a powerful tool to help improve the accuracy of your scan data. When taking longer scans, miniscule inaccuracies between frames can build up over time, leading to slight drift in your scan data. By making sure you end where you start, and rescanning some geometry, Dot3D is able to correct for this drift during optimization. Using April tags can further help to improve the accuracy of your loop closure optimization.

Loop closure should be utilized in any scan of substantial or even moderate size, to make sure misalignment during scanning dosen’t lead to any notable errors in your final data.
