This powerful feature allows Dot3D users to easily register 3D scans directly to CAD design models of the same area/object, from right within Dot3D in the field (or back in the office). And then perform near-instant analysis of differences / similarities between the design model and the as-built conditions. After which users also gain the ability to save/export their 3D scan data to the coordinate system of the reference model.

Currently, models must be prepared in OBJ format for use of this feature. The alignment process is very intuitive, with a split-screen view and simple finger tap (or mouse click) method of aligning matching surfaces or 3D points. Once aligned, users can toggle a deviation map to see a calculated level of difference between the scan and the model, highlighting critical differences that may not be apparent to the naked eye.
